I HATE WINDOWS!
But I still use it, I’m kind of like Gollum from Lord of the Rings “we loves it, we hates it”. Last year I purchased a top spec PC from Chillblast, the Juggernaut, and it came installed with Vista Ultimate 64 bit, I have had issues with it on and off since purchase end of last year but have put up with it as it is a good bit of kit and does most things I need it to do.
Having just come back from Pakistan after three weeks, I fired up the Juggernaut and after a few hours use it Blue Screen of Deathed on me, no prob, I’ll power cycle and reboot. It noticeably started to misbehave and hang. After fiddling around with it to get it fixed I ending up with a black screen and a cursor which moves but I get no login. I have spent the last two days trying to recover the system. Have googled and tried suggested solutions to no avail and am now facing a reinstall unless someone out there has any ideas (apart from “buy an Apple”)?
Luckily I had it configured as a Raid-1 (mirrored system disk) so I can reinstall on one disk and then restore my data from the other.

Install XP or wait for Win 7 – dont do 64.
Are there any specific pieces of windows only software that you need on a daily basis?
If not, you should seriously consider a modern Linux distribution. They work out of the box and the user experience is far more pleasant than with windows. I keep XP inside a virtual machine for those IE only sites and to review work that I do but apart from that I use Linux for everything.
If your machine is beefy enough (as most are these days), you can use a VM for any windows specifics apps that you need and use Linux for your daily work.
i second this Linux motion. I’ve been using Ubuntu for a year and a half now and once it’s setup and configured, no problems.
