Choices for Israel: Ethnic Cleansing, Apartheid or Democracy

Choices for Israel: Ethnic Cleansing, Apartheid or Democracy

[I saw this on the Mujahideen Ryder Blog]

In this video we see the Israeli Army commandeering a Palestinian home whenever they choose and usually in the middle of the night, turfing out the family so that they can sleep in their beds. So not only are they occupied in their own land, they are occupied even in their own homes.

We see Jewish fundamentalist (illegal) settlers determined not to move an inch even if it is a giant step towards peace, the irony is that they were ordered by their own government to populate the occupied territories.

We see the Israeli Army demolishing Arab houses in OCCUPIED East Jerusalem.

Israel is not the beacon of democracy that many in the West think it is.

The most shocking thing about this video is that fact that it was made in the first place and then aired on a prime US Channel CBS News, on a primetime show 60 Minutes.

Even with Herod Olmert’s attempt at killing as many people and children as possible in the attack on Gaza, the birth rates amongst Palestinians is so high that in 10 years the Jewish population will be a minority, insha’Allah. The only feasible way forward for Israel is peace and democracy even if they have to live as a minority, this is a conundrum that cannot be easily resolved and is a conundrum of their own making.

Mas’ud on Gerald Kaufman

The Rt. Hon. Gerald Kaufman MP likened Israeli actions against the Gazans to the Nazi treatment of the Jews during World War II. He said:

“My grandmother was ill in bed when the Nazis came to her home town .. a German soldier shot her dead in her bed.

“My grandmother did not die to provide cover for Israeli soldiers murdering Palestinian grandmothers in Gaza.”

“The present Israeli government ruthlessly and cynically exploit the continuing guilt from gentiles over the slaughter of Jews in the Holocaust as justification for their murder of Palestinians.”

Pro-Israeli Labour MP Louise Ellman said:

“…war in Gaza was not comparable to German actions in World War II”

and I have to agree, it is not the same, it is worse. Why? Because what is being perpetrated and inflicted on the Palestinians is being done by those who know what, or at least claim, it is like to have suffered and have been brutally oppressed. The oppression of the Jews lasted a few years during World War II and afffected a few generations, but the Palestinian oppression and suffereing has been going on for over 60 years and has affected many more generations and unless resolved will continue to do so. Israelis do not have a monopoly on suffering or being oppressed, especially now that they are fulfilling the role of persecutor, torturer and oppressor.

“The Nazis were about rounding up and exterminating people because of their origins.”

Yeah, and the Israelis, have them walled in and blockaded in a 4 mile wide and 25 mile long open air prison, that is Gaza, just like a Nazi concentration camp only bigger; it makes it easier to kill them, if they could get away with gassing the Palestinians it seems to me that they would.

Gerald Kaufman was raised as an Orthodox Jew and a Zionist but his humanity is what has shone through, we should all take a lesson from the courage of his convictions and comend him for speaking up so clearly when other politicians are navel gazing with cacophonous silence.
